GEORGE TOWN, February 15 — Canon Marketing Malaysia has joined forces with the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) and the Shorebirds Peninsular Malaysia Project (SPMP) to champion bird conservation awareness on World Wetlands Day at Sungai Tembus, Penang. A pivotal aspect of this initiative was the introduction of an exclusive microsite dedicated to Malaysian shorebirds, generously sponsored by Canon and developed by SPMP. This online platform offers in-depth information on over 70 shorebird species, highlighting specific observation locations across Malaysia. It also features insights from birders using Canon cameras, along with valuable photography tips.

The primary objective is to elevate awareness regarding the critical need to conserve shorebirds and their habitats, emphasizing the intricate relationship between these avian species and the wetlands they inhabit. YB Dato’ Seri Sundarajoo Somu, Penang EXCO for Housing and Environment, expressed gratitude for selecting Sungai Tembus, a biodiversity haven, as the venue for bird conservation activities. The event included captivating activities like a birding boat tour at Sungai Tembus, where participants were equipped with Canon cameras for bird watching. Educational sessions on shorebirds and bird photography, complemented by a demonstration on bird ringing, enriched the program.

Daren Tan, Head of Penang Branch at Canon Marketing Malaysia, underscored the company’s commitment to the corporate philosophy of ‘Kyosei’ and the broader message of “Imaging for Good.” Canon actively engages in initiatives aligned with its vision, contributing to a brighter world through education, community care, environmental initiatives, and cultural enhancement. This event is a continuation of Canon’s ongoing conservation endeavors in Sungai Tembus, a designated Key Biodiversity Area, showcasing the company’s dedication to ecological preservation and community involvement. In 2023, Canon planted 200 mangrove trees in Sungai Tembus, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability.
