KUALA LUMPUR, February 15 — Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, the Kuala Lumpur police chief, has openly acknowledged the issue of police officers leaking confidential information on social media platforms. Describing it as a serious concern, he emphasized the detrimental impact such actions have on the reputation of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the nation’s security. Speaking at the city police’s monthly gathering, Allaudeen stressed the importance of upholding confidentiality standards in accordance with the Official Secrets Act 1972 (Act 88).
He cautioned against the unrestricted dissemination of sensitive information facilitated by modern technology, warning of the potential legal consequences under the act for those found violating confidentiality protocols. While addressing the gathering, Allaudeen also provided updates on recent police operations. Despite a slight decrease in the value of confiscated drugs compared to the previous year, the number of arrests in January witnessed a notable increase. Additionally, he highlighted the Kuala Lumpur Commercial Crime Investigation Department’s successful crackdown on call centre scam syndicates, underscoring ongoing efforts to combat fraudulent activities in the capital city.
