BAYAN LEPAS, February 15 – In a bid to enhance Penang’s appeal as a hub for AgriTech and FoodTech, InvestPenang has established the Penang AgriTech & FoodTech Industry Council. Headed by Dato’ Loo Lee Lian, CEO of InvestPenang, the council serves as a collaborative platform between government agencies and industry players, focusing on trends, policies, and strategies to support the growth of these sectors in Penang. With a commitment to modernization and smart agriculture, the council’s formation aligns with national policies and responds to the emerging significance of AgriTech and food manufacturing in the region.
As highlighted by the Chief Minister, Right Honourable Chow Kon Yeow, the food industry is gaining prominence in Penang, complementing its established manufacturing and electronics sectors. To showcase advancements in agriculture and food technologies, an exhibit and dialogue conference titled “Smart Agriculture & Food Manufacturing: Cultivating a Sustainable Future” was co-organized by InvestPenang, FMM, HRD Corp, and MDEC. The event underscored the need for collaborative innovation to address challenges posed by climate change and food insecurity, offering local AgriTech and FoodTech players opportunities to contribute to Malaysia’s smart agriculture and food manufacturing industry, collectively working towards a sustainable future.
