KUALA LUMPUR, February 16 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged all concerned parties to submit their suggestions to the Special Committee Studying Issues Related to the Competence of the State Legislative Assemblies to Enact Islamic Laws. His call comes in response to recent discussions surrounding the Federal Court’s decision regarding the Kelantan Shariah criminal enactment, which Anwar emphasized must be respected in accordance with the Federal Constitution.

Anwar welcomed the statement by Selangor Sultan, who chairs the National Council of Islamic Religious Affairs, affirming the importance of upholding the Constitution. He reiterated the importance of channeling any suggestions regarding Islamic and Shariah law to the special committee, chaired by former chief justice Tun Zaki Azmi, tasked with reviewing relevant issues. This move reflects the government’s commitment to addressing concerns and ensuring the compatibility of state enactments with constitutional principles.
