BATU KAWAN, February 17 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim lauded the development of Batu Kawan Industrial Park 3 (BKIP 3) as a testament to Penang’s remarkable achievements in the industrial sector. Speaking at the BKIP 3 earth-breaking ceremony, Anwar acknowledged Penang’s pivotal role in early industrial exploration, driven by the Penang Development Corporation (PDC), which has significantly influenced the country’s economic growth trajectory.
Recognizing the strain on Penang’s infrastructure, particularly in areas like BKIP, Anwar affirmed the federal government’s commitment to expedite infrastructure projects such as the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and the expansion of the Penang International Airport. He also addressed water supply challenges, emphasizing the development of the new Kerian hi-tech industrial area to alleviate industrial water shortages, with the federal government expediting the Perak-Penang water deal.
Echoing Anwar’s sentiments, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow highlighted BKIP 3’s significance as the 10th industrial park developed by PDC, reflecting the state government’s dedication to meeting the demands of both foreign and domestic investors. With BKIP 3 set to cover 407 acres and its first phase expected to be completed by 2025, Chow emphasized its potential to stimulate economic growth not only in Penang but also in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia, leveraging quality infrastructure connectivity to drive positive economic spillover effects.
