GEORGE TOWN, February 17 – The Consumer Association of Penang (CAP) is urging the Penang State Government and the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) to conduct an investigation and take immediate action to address the problem of trash pollution in the Bayan Lepas Waterfall area here. CAP’s survey revealed that waste materials such as plastic residues, paper, old mattresses and pillows, baby diapers, food waste, broken furniture, empty cans, beverage bottles, and more are strewn across the area, including floating and stranded in the waterfall pool.

Furthermore, fallen trees and dried leaves remain uncleared, damaged bridges and benches have not been repaired, and the access road to the area is narrow and overgrown with bushes. CAP is dismayed that despite the long-standing issue, no effective action has been taken by the authorities to address it, resulting in the pollution situation worsening and becoming repulsive. CAP understands that the dumping of various types of waste by residents of nearby apartment blocks is the main cause of the problem. In addition to environmental pollution, this problem can also trigger disease outbreaks among the public.
