KOTA KINABALU, February 24 — Borneo Cement Sabah Sdn Bhd’s ambitious RM2 billion integrated clinker and cement plant project, situated in Nabawan’s interior district, is on track to commence operations by the year’s end. Michael Kinsuan, the general manager, outlined that construction will kick off post the approval of the Environmental Impact Study (EIA) report by the Environment Department (DoE), marking a significant milestone for the state.

The project, a joint venture between local entity Setia Alam Sdn Bhd and the Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco), with investments from China-based Sinoma Bhd, encompasses a phased approach. Initial development includes constructing a 26km road from Kampung Matiku to the BCS factory site in Nabawan, facilitating logistical operations. The factory, strategically located in Bukit Sinobang, Kampung Kawayoi, will cover 280 hectares, while an additional 200 hectares are designated for the clinker site.

Plans also include provisions for infrastructure enhancements such as electricity, water supply, and telecommunications towers, benefiting surrounding communities. With a workforce requirement of approximately 1,000 skilled and semi-skilled workers, the project aims to boost local employment and stimulate economic growth in the region.
