KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 – The inauguration of Jom Kita Bincang! (Let’s talk about it!) is set to commence on February 26, 2024, at the Raja Tun Uda Library in Shah Alam, Malaysia. This unique exhibition, inspired by Sweden’s rich tradition of children’s literature, aims to spark discussions on sustainability, health, rights, and social issues through the power of storytelling.
Under the patronage of His Highness the Crown Prince of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah, the event will feature an inaugural academic forum, workshops, and newly translated Swedish children’s books in Bahasa Malaysia, fostering an engaging platform for dialogue and learning. Dr. Joachim Bergström, Ambassador of Sweden to Malaysia, emphasizes the crucial role of children’s literature in shaping societal attitudes towards sustainability and equality, drawing parallels with Sweden’s own commitment to these values.
Malaysian academics, Dr. Sharifah Aishah Osman and Ms. Eda Suhana Sharudin, highlight the significance of exposing young people to the Sustainable Development Goals through literature, empowering them to become active global citizens. The event’s diverse lineup of participants, including representatives from international organizations and academia, underscores the potential of children’s literature to drive meaningful change and foster a better world. Through workshops, exhibitions, and engaging discussions, Jom Kita Bincang! aims to inspire children and adults alike to explore pressing issues and envision a more inclusive and sustainable future.
