KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 – Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim delivered a speech in Australia today, cautioning against efforts to contain China’s ascent, stating that such actions would exacerbate tensions and disrupt regional harmony. Speaking at the Australian National University in Canberra, Anwar emphasized the need for countries to understand China’s perspective, acknowledging its military and diplomatic advancements as natural outcomes of its economic and technological progress.
He warned that obstructing China’s growth would only deepen its grievances, potentially escalating existing tensions in the region. During his address at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Australia, Anwar reiterated his stance on fostering cooperation and economic integration among major players in the Asia-Pacific region. Amidst growing tensions in the South China Sea, particularly highlighted by clashes between the Philippines and China, Anwar called on Malaysia and Australia to play a constructive role in promoting dialogue and understanding.
