KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 – Transport Minister Anthony Loke unveiled ambitious plans to bolster Electric Train Service (ETS) ridership, targeting over seven million passengers by 2025, a significant surge from the 2023 figure of 4,115,242 passengers. The strategy involves the phased introduction of ten new sets of six-coach electric trains commencing next year. This expansion is anticipated to double the frequency of ETS trips from 32 to 64 per day, culminating in an estimated ridership of 7,547,565 passengers upon full deployment.

Loke announced these measures during a parliamentary session, responding to inquiries concerning the rising demand for ETS services, notably in conjunction with the Visit Perlis Year 2024-2025 initiative. Additionally, he outlined plans to ramp up ETS trip frequency during festive periods, starting with the forthcoming Hari Raya season. These endeavors underscore the Ministry of Transport’s commitment to bolstering train service capacity and frequency in alignment with evolving passenger demands.
