GEORGE TOWN, March 16 – Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced that the state government remains open to further discussions regarding the adoption of the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672). While confirming that the state executive council received a briefing on Act 672, Chow emphasized the need for continued deliberations before reaching a decision. Chow Kon Yeow highlighted that the state will thoroughly assess both the advantages and disadvantages of adopting Act 672 before making any conclusive decisions.

The Chief Minister’s remarks come in response to recent statements from Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, who mentioned ongoing talks between the ministry and the Penang government regarding the adoption of the Act. Currently, seven states have adopted Act 672, while Penang, alongside four other states, including Selangor, is still deliberating on its adoption.
