KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 – The Economy Ministry has announced that the joint agreement for the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) is anticipated to be finalized and signed by the end of 2024. This agreement, marking a significant collaboration between Malaysia and Singapore, is scheduled to be endorsed by the prime ministers of both nations during the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat later this year. The ministry outlined that the agreement will delineate the cooperative efforts between the two countries for the development of the JS-SEZ, specifying sectors of focus, location, and incentives to be provided.

Initiated with a memorandum of understanding signed by Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli and Singapore’s Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong in January 2024, the JS-SEZ project has progressed with the Johor government conducting a comprehensive study and submitting an interim report to the Economy Ministry. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has since chaired a coordination meeting to gather feedback from relevant ministries and agencies, paving the way for further discussions with Singapore.
