KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 – Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced the renewal of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) operating agreement with the Malaysian government, extending its contract to manage and develop 39 airports and short take-off and landing (STOL) ports for the next 45 years. The new agreement, signed until February 11, 2069, grants MAHB the flexibility to undertake strategic investments aimed at enhancing airports’ capacity, facilities, and infrastructure to elevate service standards.

Loke emphasized that this extension allows MAHB to invest in capacity building and upgrade airports based on the investment recovery model, reducing the burden on the government for development allocations. He highlighted the importance of upgrading smaller airports, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak, to tap into their tourism potential. The minister reassured that with MAHB managing the airports, disruptions to passengers will be minimized, alleviating the government’s financial burden while ensuring continuous improvement in airport facilities and services.
