KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 – Umno Youth chief Dr. Muhamad Akmal Saleh has reaffirmed his backing for boycotting KK Mart despite the store’s apology over the sale of socks featuring the word “Allah”. In a Facebook post, Dr. Akmal underscored Umno’s dedication to defending Islam, the Bumiputera, and the Malay Rulers, portraying the boycott as a reflection of the party’s principles rather than incitement. Encouraging supporters to maintain their resolve, he stressed the significance of unity and determination in the Islamic community’s response, cautioning against undermining religious and ethnic issues and advocating for collective efforts to uphold these values.

Addressing criticism from Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, Dr. Akmal defended Umno’s position, rejecting accusations of violating the “Madani spirit”. Previously, Dr. Akmal lodged a police report against KK Mart and called for a public apology from its management, insisting on stringent action against those accountable for the incident. His unwavering stance signals a continuing challenge for KK Mart, highlighting the depth of sentiments and principles involved in the ongoing controversy.
