SHAH ALAM, March 22 — Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM), announced the ministry’s strategic focus on bolstering urban farming initiatives to cultivate a new wave of entrepreneurs within the agriculture and food sector. With the recent allocation of RM1 billion by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the ministry aims to leverage a portion of these funds to foster successful entrepreneurs through sustainable agricultural practices, particularly in urban areas.

Mohamad highlighted the significance of empowering urban farming, citing its widespread adoption in countries like Singapore. He expressed the government’s commitment to encouraging broader community participation in this type of farming, leveraging various facilities, including the RM1 billion allocation under the Madani Community Fund.

The allocation, announced during the Bumiputera Economic Congress 2024 (KEB 2024), aligns with intentions to cultivate a new generation of Bumiputera entrepreneurs in high-growth sectors. Through collaboration with Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLICs), the fund aims to accelerate the transformation of the Bumiputera economic landscape, supporting initiatives proposed during the congress.
