KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 — Human Resources Minister Steven Sim has issued a stern warning to companies, stressing the need to prioritize workers’ welfare following allegations of retirement fund absence for teachers at the Pasti Islamic kindergarten linked to the PAS party. Addressing Parliament, Sim emphasized that all companies, regardless of private or public status or political affiliations, must adhere to employment laws. He reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding workers’ rights and vowed to take action if these rights are compromised, responding to queries by Parti Amanah Negara’s Sri Gading MP Aminolhuda Hassan regarding the welfare of teachers at the kindergarten.

Sim’s statement comes after calls by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad for PAS to address concerns regarding underpayment of salaries and lack of retirement plans for Pasti teachers. Sim also addressed issues concerning delayed salary payments at Kedah Argo Holdings Bhd, assuring that affected staff would receive their salaries before Hari Raya Aidilfitri. He urged employees facing similar issues to report them to the Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia for investigation, underscoring the government’s commitment to safeguarding workers’ rights and holding employers accountable for any negligence.
