KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 — PLUS has announced the activation of the open payment system (SPT) at the Penang Bridge’s toll plaza, allowing users to make toll payments using MyDebit cards, as well as Visa or Mastercard-branded debit and credit cards. The implementation of debit and credit card payments at the Penang Bridge toll plaza has been long-awaited. Initially planned in 2018 through the PLUS RFID system, it faced obstacles due to objections from Touch ‘n Go’s parent company, CIMB.

After settling the matter in late 2019, the project saw delays, with the support for debit and credit card payments scheduled for September 2023. However, it was only recently, on March 15, that PLUS finally announced the trial support for credit and debit card payments at Penang Bridge toll plaza. Penang residents and commuters can still benefit from a 20 per cent discount for debit and credit card payments, applicable to Class 2 and Class 3 vehicles. However, applicants need to provide various supporting documents, including a copy of the Vehicle Ownership Certificate, through the Jimat di Penang portal.
