KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has revealed that the Ministry of Education (MoE) will soon announce the recruitment of new teachers as part of its ongoing effort to address the issue of teacher shortage in the country. Speaking at the Majlis Iftar Si Burung Kecil and Ramah Mesra with Media Practitioners event at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Bintang Utara, Fadhlina emphasized that addressing the shortage is a top priority for the ministry.

She expressed confidence in the ministry’s planning and projections, stating that vacancies will be promptly filled with trained teachers, including those from fully residential schools (SBP), once accurate projections are obtained. Fadhlina’s announcement follows MoE’s significant achievement last year, where 20,171 new teachers were appointed on both permanent and contract bases, marking the highest achievement recorded by the ministry within a single year.

The event, organised in collaboration with Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (Abim) and FGV Holdings Berhad (FGV), also aimed to encourage young children practising fasting and promote solidarity with Palestine, in line with MoE’s emphasis on Islamic values and social responsibility.
