PUTRAJAYA, April 2 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim affirmed that essential items such as chicken, eggs, and cooking oil are presently priced lower and remain stable compared to previous years under the previous administration. Anwar addressed critics, stating that despite the government’s efforts, some quarters continue to disparage the Madani government’s initiatives aimed at alleviating the cost of living. Anwar cited significant reductions in the prices of essential commodities, noting that chicken, which previously cost RM13 per kilogram, now ranges from RM9 to RM9.50 per kilogram.

Similarly, the price of cooking oil, previously between RM45 to RM50 for five kilograms, has decreased to approximately RM27. Anwar also highlighted the improved availability of chicken eggs, contrasting the past scarcity with the current stable supply. Anwar’s remarks were made during the monthly assembly with staff of the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) and attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, and Director-General of the Public Service Department Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.

Addressing the issue of corruption within the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Anwar expressed concern over the significant financial losses incurred due to smuggling activities. He stressed the importance of enforcement to curb such leakages and urged all stakeholders to devise effective strategies to ensure aid and subsidies reach the intended recipients. Anwar also highlighted initiatives like the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) program, noting a substantial increase in allocation and beneficiaries compared to previous years, demonstrating the government’s commitment to assisting the underprivileged.
