PUTRAJAYA, April 3 — The Finance Ministry has revealed that payments for Phase 2 of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) to 8.4 million recipients will begin on today, Wednesday, April 3. The payments will range from RM100 to RM650 and will be disbursed in stages to eligible recipients through their bank accounts or cash at Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) branches. In a statement issued yesterday, the Finance Ministry outlined that both existing and new recipients registered in the STR database will receive payments based on their eligible categories.
Notably, the government has adopted a new approach this year by allowing open registration for STR 2024 throughout the year to facilitate more people benefiting from government aid, leading to an expected increase in eligible recipients. The Finance Ministry also highlighted an increase in the allocation for the targeted subsidy programme under STR Phase 2 by 20 per cent, amounting to RM1.5 billion, aimed at aiding low and middle-income earners to cope with the rising cost of living.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that these economic reforms aim not only to rectify the nation’s financial structure but also to ensure more equitable sharing of the country’s wealth with the people. Anwar assured that the government would continue to increase cash assistance in line with the nation’s fiscal improvement and implement targeted subsidies for those genuinely in need. Recipients are advised to verify their eligibility status and access FAQs on the official STR portal to avoid misinformation from unverified sources.
