KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 – A recent study conducted by Cisco has shed light on the cybersecurity readiness of organizations in Malaysia, revealing that only two percent possess the level of readiness necessary to defend against today’s rapidly evolving threat landscape. The 2024 Cisco Cybersecurity Readiness Index indicates that the majority of organizations in Malaysia are at the Beginner or Formative stages of readiness, with 66% falling into these categories.

Despite this, a staggering 85% of companies express moderate to high confidence in their ability to defend against cyberattacks, showcasing a significant disparity between confidence and actual readiness. One of the key findings of the study is the prevalent use of multiple point solutions in cybersecurity strategies, with 87% of respondents acknowledging that this approach has hindered their ability to detect, respond, and recover from incidents.

Additionally, the study highlights critical talent shortages in the cybersecurity domain, with 91% of organizations identifying this as an issue. However, there is a growing awareness of the need to bolster defenses, as evidenced by 98% of companies planning to increase their cybersecurity budgets in the next 12 months, with a focus on upgrading existing solutions, deploying new technologies, and investing in AI-driven capabilities.
