PUTRAJAYA, April 5 – The national finance council, chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, has agreed to increase Putrajaya’s contributions to various states to RM8.9 billion this year. This decision, following a meeting with menteris besar and chief ministers, marks a continued rise from the RM8.3 billion and RM8.1 billion allocated to states in 2023 and 2022, respectively. The RM8.9 billion includes RM5.4 billion for state road maintenance and RM400 million based on the development level of respective states’ economies, infrastructure, and well-being.

Sabah and Sarawak will each receive RM300 million as part of the annual special grant from the federal government. Additionally, the Treasury will augment its contributions to state museums and libraries by 10% this year. The government remains steadfast in bolstering its relationship with all state governments to ensure the nation’s progress, emphasizing the importance of these increased grants and allocations for development expenditure.
