KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 – Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, announced plans to amend the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) Act 1981 to incorporate provisions regarding standard contracts for workers in the film industry. Fahmi emphasized the importance of addressing social security aspects within these contracts to safeguard the welfare of industry workers.
He highlighted the need for Finas to enforce compliance with standard contracts, particularly concerning contributions to EPF (Employees Provident Fund) or Socso (Social Security Organisation), and to establish mechanisms for addressing complaints regarding failed contributions. The proposed amendments aim to enhance worker protection and ensure fair practices within the industry.
While awaiting the completion of the legal amendment process, Finas officials have been directed to improve existing contracts under the guidance of Finas chairman Datuk Kamil Othman and CEO Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib.
