KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 – In a recent announcement on X, Minister of International Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, unveiled Perodua’s pivotal role in spearheading the production of affordable Electric Vehicles (EVs) as part of Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030. Confirming the 2025 timeline for Perodua’s introduction of affordable EVs, Tengku Zafrul underscored discussions with senior Perodua executives, including President and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, to monitor the company’s progress in EV development and explore avenues for governmental support.
Perodua’s strides in EV development include strategic collaboration with an undisclosed international car partner to construct a prototype EV. The slated debut of Perodua’s EV by 2025 coincides with the conclusion of the RM 100K price cap for imported Completely Built-Up (CBU) EVs under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry’s Franchise AP policy. This move not only positions Perodua as a frontrunner in Malaysia’s shift towards sustainable transportation but also marks a significant stride towards a future of accessible and eco-conscious mobility solutions.
