GEORGE TOWN, April 19 – George Town Festival (GTF), renowned for its vibrant celebration of Penang’s arts, culture, and heritage, is gearing up for its 15th edition with a fresh perspective. Organized by Kerson Media Global Sdn Bhd, this year’s festival, scheduled from July 19th to 28th, promises an immersive experience under the theme “Here & Now.” With a focus on embracing George Town’s essence, GTF aims to foster deeper connections between the city, its residents, and the global arts community.
During a spirited address, Festival Director Ms. Chin Teo unveiled the exciting lineup for GTF 2024, set to captivate audiences over its 10-day duration. Embracing the theme “Here & Now,” the festival marks a significant milestone, offering a diverse array of international performances and art exhibitions alongside innovative urban fringe events. Ms. Chin highlighted the arts’ role in fostering unity and expression, thanking key partners and sponsors for their invaluable contributions to GTF’s success.
Artistic Director Ling Tang shared insights into GTF 2024’s immersive programmes, emphasizing the utilization of George Town’s unique landscape. Beyond traditional venues, the festival will repurpose unconventional spaces to host performances, art installations, and a creative market. With over 364 applications from 56 countries, the festival’s global appeal is evident, promising diverse creative perspectives through its Artist-in-Residence programme.
YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang’s EXCO Tourism & Creative Economy, commended GTF’s profound impact on Penang’s arts and economy during the unveiling of the festival’s key visual. With over a decade of success, GTF draws global attention, showcasing Penang’s vibrant cultural scene. The festival’s striking key visual, designed by Putticoop, captures George Town’s colourful diversity and the evolution of GTF.
