KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 – Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) reminded parents to ensure that their children under 13 refrain from owning any social media accounts. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil emphasized that it was inappropriate for children in this age group to utilize social media platforms, as most of them have age restrictions barring teenagers under 13 from signing up.
Speaking at the Lembah Pantai Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House 2024, Fahmi Fadzil conveyed the MCMC’s warning to parents, urging them to prevent their children from accessing platforms like TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram. He emphasized that any instances of underage social media account ownership should be reported to the MCMC, promising prompt action to shut down such accounts. This reminder underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the online safety and well-being of young Malaysians.
