SHAH ALAM, April 24 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) commenced its 25th anniversary celebrations with a special convention, reflecting on its journey rooted in the struggles of its president, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. With about 5,000 delegates in attendance, the event revisited the party’s inception amid Anwar’s persecution, which ignited the ‘reformasi’ movement, culminating in PKR’s rise to government today.
The convention underscored that PKR’s reformist agenda continues, despite its position in governance. Deputy President Rafizi Ramli emphasized the need for perpetual reform, especially amidst evolving challenges. To this end, PKR unveiled two frameworks—Organisational Empowerment of the Party 25 (POP25) and KEMAS16—to ensure its victory in the 16th general election.
Anwar reiterated the mantra ‘lawan tetap lawan’ (a fight remains a fight) to combat corruption, urging steadfast commitment to the reform agenda. Notably, PKR’s membership surged to over a million under Anwar’s leadership, symbolizing its enduring grassroots support. Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail hailed Anwar as a source of strength, reflecting on his unwavering guidance amid adversity, even from prison.
