GEORGE TOWN, April 30 – The world-renowned GuoGuang Opera Company is poised to dazzle audiences at the George Town Festival 2024 with a captivating programme celebrating the artistry of Peking opera. Prior to their highly anticipated performance in July, a touring ensemble from the troupe will visit Penang in May to introduce the unique aesthetics of Peking opera to local audiences. Scheduled for 2nd May 2024 at 8 pm at the Penang Youth Centre, this exclusive session aims to promote cultural exchange and appreciation.
Founded in 1995 and hailed as Taiwan’s premier national Peking opera troupe, GuoGuang Opera Company has earned acclaim for its innovative blend of contemporary elements with traditional opera, ensuring the genre’s relevance in modern times. The May sharing session will feature a talk by GuoGuang’s CEO, Chang Yu-hua, shedding light on the history and evolution of Taiwan’s Peking opera scene. Attendees will also be treated to mesmerising demonstration performances by GuoGuang’s rising stars, Li Jia-de and Lin Ting-Yu, offering a glimpse into the captivating world of Peking opera.
