PUTRAJAYA, May 2 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the Madani government would closely monitor the inflation rate in the country following the announcement of a more than 13 per cent increase in civil servants’ salaries this December. During the Soal Jawab Perdana Menteri programme, Anwar emphasized the importance of overseeing the implementation of the salary increase to ensure it doesn’t exceed the government’s revenue, especially considering Malaysia’s low inflation rate, which is among the lowest in Asia.

Anwar reassured that the government is committed to preventing the inflation rate from burdening the people. He addressed concerns about rising inflation, emphasizing that the government will strive to maintain control over the cost of living. Anwar’s announcement of the salary increase for civil servants, expected to involve an allocation of over RM10 billion, comes amid Bank Negara Malaysia’s projection of moderate inflation, ranging between 2.0 per cent and 3.5 per cent for the year. – BERNAMA
