KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today that Microsoft will inject RM10 billion into artificial intelligence and cloud technology development in Malaysia over the next four years. This substantial investment marks the largest commitment ever made by the American tech giant in Malaysia to date, following a meeting between Anwar and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella earlier in the day. Anwar lauded the deal as a testament to investors’ confidence in his government and its policies, emphasizing Malaysia’s attractiveness as an investment destination with robust economic fundamentals and a conducive business environment.

He highlighted the investment’s alignment with the government’s focus on developing domestic AI capacity and underscored its potential to benefit Malaysia’s economy and workforce. Microsoft’s investment will encompass the establishment of cloud and AI infrastructure, provision of AI skilling opportunities for 200,000 individuals, collaboration with the Malaysian government to enhance AI and cybersecurity capabilities, and support for the country’s developer community, marking a significant milestone in Microsoft’s 32-year presence in Malaysia.
