KOTA BARU, May 5 ― Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced plans to enhance Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes to tackle Malaysia’s shortage of 30,000 engineers. Speaking at the Kelantan-level 2024 Madani Aidilfitri Celebration, Anwar stressed the importance of integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology into the curriculum to meet contemporary demands while upholding moral values and cultural identity.

Anwar assured the Kelantan state government of equal opportunities for local youths in TVET, engineering, and AI training. He emphasized the integration of these advancements into religious education to ensure the younger generation remains competitive. Microsoft’s interest in investing RM10.5 billion for AI technology development in Malaysia aligns with these efforts. Furthermore, Anwar expressed confidence in parliamentary support for the announced salary increase of over 13 per cent for civil servants, aimed at bridging income disparities.

The move, part of the new Civil Service Remuneration System, aims to raise the minimum income for civil servants to over RM2,000 monthly, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fair wages and workforce development.
