PUTRAJAYA, May 7 – Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil clarified that the government has no intentions to ban broadcast artists entangled in controversies stemming from their personal lives. Fahmi emphasized that such measures are increasingly ineffective in the contemporary digital landscape. Addressing reporters at a joint Hari Raya open house, Fahmi highlighted the evolution of media consumption, noting the proliferation of social media platforms and diverse channels.
He underscored the limitations of blanket bans, stating that individuals could still disseminate content through alternative avenues. In response to queries regarding the potential barring of performers Aliff Aziz and Ruhainies from television channels due to their personal controversies, Fahmi advocated for rehabilitation instead. He expressed hope for artists to acknowledge their mistakes and commit to self-improvement, suggesting rehabilitation as a viable approach overseen by the director-general of broadcast.
