PUTRAJAYA, May 8 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has clarified that it has not initiated any investigations into Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming regarding alleged vote-buying during the Kuala Kubu Baru state by-election in Selangor. MACC Chief Tan Sri Azam Baki stated that no complaints have been lodged against Nga so far, but the commission will continue to monitor the situation closely. Responding to reporters’ queries, Azam mentioned that while media reports on the matter will be evaluated by the complaints center, it is essential to ascertain whether the allegations involve corruption before launching any formal investigations.

The controversy emerged after Nga’s announcement of RM5.21 million for public infrastructure projects, including those in the Chinese New Village Project in Hulu Selangor, sparking criticism from opposition parties and election watchdogs. Nga’s allocation announcement, made prior to the official campaigning period for the May 11 by-election, drew condemnation from Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Bersih. PN’s Deputy Youth Chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal accused Nga of attempting to sway votes, while Bersih criticized the move as violating fair election campaigning principles, emphasizing the need for impartiality during electoral processes.
