KOTA KINABALU, May 20 — Malaysia has achieved significant progress in its 5G network infrastructure development, with over 7,000 5G sites fully developed across the country as of April this year, according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. Fahmi disclosed that this milestone brings 5G network availability to 81.5 percent coverage in residential areas, with current subscription standing at 11.9 million or 35.4 percent of the population.
Speaking at the 2024 World Telecommunications and Information Society Day celebrations, Fahmi highlighted the acceleration of 5G implementation, originally slated under the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela) 2023-2025. He emphasized the government’s commitment to achieving the set targets, underscoring the importance of enhanced digital connectivity for national development. Despite delays in tower completion, particularly in Sabah, Fahmi assured that close monitoring by the Ministry and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would ensure the timely completion of the Jendela project.
