GEORGE TOWN, May 21 — The Digital Ministry, led by Minister Gobind Singh, is advocating for a new policy to facilitate the rollout of 5G private networks across various industries in Malaysia. This initiative aims to promote digital transformation and enhance the adoption of 5G technology beyond consumer use. Minister Gobind emphasized the need for collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to develop this proposal.
Highlighting the current adoption rates—80.8% nationwide and 90% in Penang—he stressed the importance of expanding 5G usage to sectors such as manufacturing, health, and agriculture. Gobind underscored that 5G private networks offer bespoke solutions tailored to industry-specific requirements, promising better efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness. The initiative aims to prepare all industrial areas and ensure new factories are 5G-ready, thereby avoiding future upgrade costs.
