KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the government’s commitment to introducing a Progressive Wage Policy for the private sector, complementing recent improvements to civil servants’ salaries and allowances. During a live address, Anwar highlighted the government’s review of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) as a message to the private sector to balance profits with employee welfare, addressing concerns about the future prospects of young graduates and workers.

Anwar announced that public servants will see a salary increase of over 13% starting in December, following years without a review. He also outlined efforts to enhance the skills of local talent and improve the business ecosystem to support competitive, high-value industries. This includes targeting a minimum monthly income of RM4,500 for manufacturing industry workers by 2030 and restructuring Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in collaboration with industry leaders.

Additionally, Khazanah Nasional Bhd is spearheading initiatives to foster new entrepreneurs with a RM1 billion fund, while the government’s People’s Income Initiative (IPR) aims to eradicate hardcore poverty through state collaboration.
