KUCHING, May 28 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced an additional allocation of RM1 million for the Tabung Kasih@Hawana fund for the upcoming year. The announcement was made during the highlight of the National Journalists’ Day (Hawana) 2024 celebration, emphasizing the government’s continued support for media practitioners.

“I want to extend it because last year I announced RM1 million for Tabung Kasih@Hawana, so I will continue with the RM1 million allocation for Tabung Kasih@Hawana,” Anwar stated in his opening speech. The event was attended by notable figures including Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, and Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai. Established during Hawana 2023, the fund has already assisted 102 media practitioners in need, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting journalists both active and retired.

This year’s Hawana, themed “Etika Teras Kewartawanan Mapan,” saw participation from media professionals across Southeast Asia and beyond, marking it as the largest gathering of journalists in Malaysia.
