PUTRAJAYA, May 29 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke revealed that the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) regulation at the Malaysia-Singapore border will be fully enforced starting October 1. This enforcement aims to ensure compliance with road regulations by foreign-registered vehicle owners entering Malaysia. Effective October 1, anyone driving a foreign motor vehicle without a VEP will face enforcement action under Section 66H (7) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which includes fines of up to RM2,000 or imprisonment for up to six months upon conviction.
Loke emphasized that the VEP allows authorities to track foreign vehicles entering and leaving Malaysia, ensuring that any traffic summons is settled before the vehicle exits the country. The VEP registration process has been simplified, with RFID tags sent directly to applicants’ addresses, charging a fee of RM10 for a five-year validity period. Foreign vehicle owners are urged to register and activate their VEP RFID tags promptly to avoid any issues when entering and leaving Malaysia.
