KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the need for a proper explanation regarding the tender process after allegations of nepotism surfaced in the award of a Selangor government contract to a company linked to the husband of Sports and Youth Minister Hannah Yeoh. He stressed that the public deserves transparency and mentioned that he is open to an investigation if necessary, following calls to scrutinize the involvement of Yeoh’s husband’s company, Asia Mobiliti, in providing a demand-responsive transit (DRT) system in Selangor.
Asia Mobiliti, which has denied the nepotism claims as baseless and malicious, stated it was selected along with Badan Bas Coach Sdn Bhd to avoid a monopoly, as both are currently the only companies capable of offering the specialized service. The Selangor government announced the appointment at a public forum in June 2023 and unveiled the Selangor Mobiliti brand logo and zone at the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention in October 2023.
