JOHOR BARU, June 5 – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that incentives for the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) are anticipated to be unveiled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during Budget 2025. This development follows discussions with Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who proposed a tax holiday among other incentives. Zahid confirmed that he will communicate these requests to the Prime Minister, potentially leading to their inclusion in the upcoming budget.
Speaking at the Halal on Track@Johor programme, Zahid encouraged local halal product entrepreneurs to tap into China’s vast market, citing a positive response from Chinese leaders during his recent visit. He emphasized the universal appeal of halal products due to their rigorous standards. Additionally, Onn Hafiz highlighted that the JS-SEZ, with a focus on the halal industry, is set to formalize its agreement with Singapore in September, and plans are underway to expand Johor’s Iskandar Halal Park to accommodate more entrepreneurs.
