PUTRAJAYA, June 6 — The Election Commission (EC) has announced that the by-election for the Sungai Bakap state seat in Penang will be held on Saturday, July 6. EC Deputy Chairman Azmi Sharom confirmed that nomination day is set for June 22, with early voting scheduled for July 2. The by-election was necessitated by the passing of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24, who succumbed to stomach inflammation at the age of 56 while in the ICU at Hospital Seberang Jaya. This will be the eighth by-election since the 15th general election in November 2022.
