KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng addressed concerns today regarding the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English, asserting that it’s not a matter related to race, religion, or royalty (3R). He clarified that the request for at least one class to teach these subjects in English doesn’t undermine the importance of Bahasa Malaysia.
Lim highlighted the historical context, pointing out that during Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration, there were no such requirements, allowing parents to choose the medium of instruction freely. He echoed the sentiment expressed by many Malay parents who are advocating for the return to the previous system. This stance comes in response to recent remarks suggesting that such requests challenge the Federal Constitution’s position on the Malay language.
