KUCHING, June 8 — The Ministry of Communications is set to leverage 5G-Advanced technology for live streaming during the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak this August, announced Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. The plan involves collaboration with Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and telecommunications companies, facilitated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Fahmi highlighted the significant speed difference between 5G and 5G-Advanced, with the latter offering speeds over 8 Gbps, essential for broadcasting live events with integrated elements. While the technology will be trialed in Kuching, further studies are required for potential deployment in other locations like Sibu and Bintulu. Additionally, Fahmi discussed the future implementation of satellite direct-to-device (D2D) services in Malaysia by 2026 or 2027, aimed at achieving comprehensive internet coverage in populated areas.
