GEORGE TOWN, June 8 — DAP National Chair and MP for Bagan, Lim Guan Eng, has called on Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek to resolve issues raised by the School Boards and Parent-Teacher Associations of 11 secondary schools in Penang regarding the Dual Language Programme (DLP). These schools are advocating for the continuation of parental choice in deciding whether their children should be taught Science and Mathematics in English, as was practiced by the previous PN/BN government.

The current directive requires at least one class to be taught in Bahasa Malaysia, but the schools report insufficient students to meet this requirement. Lim emphasized that respecting parental choice will democratize education, ensuring it serves the best interests of students. He criticized recent political statements opposing this approach, highlighting the importance of maintaining a progressive education system free from political interference.
