GEORGE TOWN, June 12 — DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke extended a warm welcome to MCA for their potential involvement in campaigning for the unity government candidate in the upcoming Sungai Bakap state by-election. Loke expressed openness to MCA’s participation, stating, “Perhaps they have changed their mind, so we welcome (their involvement in the campaign).” His remarks came during a press conference following the opening of the 57th Asean Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM) today.
MCA President Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong had recently indicated the party’s willingness to assist in the campaign for the unity government candidate. This gesture marks a potential shift from MCA’s abstention in the Kuala Kubu Baru state by-election last month due to the absence of a Barisan Nasional candidate. With the Election Commission scheduling polling for July 6 and nomination day on June 22, the Sungai Bakap by-election was necessitated by the passing of incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24.
