SEBERANG PERAI, June 19 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged today that the initial implementation of any subsidy rationalisation is likely to have flaws. Speaking at a press conference after attending a Korban Perdana event at Masjid Jamek Cherok Tok Kun Bawah, Anwar defended the government’s move to replace the blanket diesel subsidy with a targeted plan aimed at benefiting specific demographic groups and preventing exploitation by the wealthy and smugglers.

“If there are weaknesses, inform us and we will correct it,” Anwar stated, urging critics to provide constructive feedback instead of merely attacking the government. He emphasized that the new plan ensures subsidies reach the deserving, such as fishermen, farmers, and public transport users. Anwar also highlighted that foreign entities had been benefiting from Malaysia’s diesel subsidies for decades, and the rationalisation is necessary to protect the country’s resources for the B40 and M40 groups. He reiterated his commitment to finding ways to reduce the cost of living and address the financial burden on the people.
