KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 – In Malaysia, the prevailing notion that men should be resilient and self-reliant often discourages them from seeking medical help. This stereotype, noted in the Ministry of Health’s Men’s Health Plan of Action 2018 – 2023, leads to men neglecting preventive health measures and delaying treatment until complications arise. As we approach Fathers’ Day, it’s crucial to address men’s health, particularly fertility and reproductive health, which are often overlooked due to societal misconceptions about masculinity.

Dr. Muhilan Parameswaran, a consultant urologist at TMC Fertility, emphasizes the importance of early medical intervention. He notes that many health issues, including those affecting fertility, can be managed or prevented with regular check-ups. However, men often delay seeking help due to embarrassment or discomfort discussing issues like prostate health. Dr. Muhilan advocates for routine health assessments and open conversations about health concerns to ensure early detection and treatment, ultimately fostering a proactive approach to men’s health. This Fathers’ Day, let’s encourage men to break the silence, seek help, and prioritize their well-being.
