GEORGE TOWN, June 22 – The George Town Heritage Celebrations 2024 (GTHC 2024) will commence on 7th July, celebrating the city’s 16th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Organized by George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) in collaboration with 42 community groups, the event features 16 cultural workshops, 6 interactive performances, and 20 community-led programmes.
These activities aim to educate and immerse the public in George Town’s rich cultural heritage, with Dr. Ang Ming Chee, GTWHI’s General Manager, particularly inviting families with teenagers to join in the festivities. Key highlights include cultural workshops spread across Armenian Park, Masjid Melayu Lebuh Acheh, Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi, and Hock Teik Cheng Sin Temple, covering activities such as Chingay Parade, Bamboo Star Lantern Making, and Batik Painting.
Interactive performances will feature Boria, Loy Krathong, Japanese Dance, and more at Seh Tek Tong Cheah Kongsi. Additionally, the George Town Heritage Day City Walk will allow participants to explore the city’s heritage streets, with medals and e-certificates awarded upon completion.
