GEORGE TOWN, June 24 — The Malaysia International Miniature Hobby Show & Competition (MIMHS – MALCOM) has officially commenced in the grand ballroom on the 10th floor of The Wembley – A St Giles Hotel, Penang. This prestigious event, spearheaded by Mr. Choo Huang Ming, founder of World Hobby Miniatures, is supported by the Penang State Executive Council for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE). The event is honored by the presence of Mr. Kawaguchi Yoshiyasu, Consulate-General of Japan in Penang, highlighting the deep cultural ties between Malaysia and Japan.
This year’s theme, “Honoring the Classics, Inheriting the Future,” showcases an array of intricate miniature models, including Star Wars, Warhammer 40,000, and Gundam. With 77 exhibitors from countries such as Japan, Germany, and the United Kingdom, and 64 judges from around the world, the event is a testament to the global reach and significance of the miniature model industry. It not only celebrates the artistry and historical preservation through miniatures but also underscores their role in the creative economy, driving cultural and economic development in Penang. The event, free to the public, expects to draw around 25,000 visitors, reflecting its status as Southeast Asia’s largest and most renowned miniature model exhibition.
