KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced today that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have arrested eight suspects linked to Islamic State, thwarting threats against the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The coordinated operation, conducted on June 22 and 23, 2024, across four states, led to the detention of six men and two women.

Initial investigations by the Special Branch department revealed the suspects, from varied backgrounds including unemployed individuals, housewives, and professionals, had also targeted prominent figures and senior police leadership. The arrests followed previous operations in May, and all suspects will be investigated under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012. Saifuddin assured the public of their safety, lauding the police’s efficiency in countering extremism and urging nationwide vigilance and cooperation to combat such threats.
